The NEW YEAR is here, and it’s time to make resolutions to help you live a healthier life!
Whether you resolve to quit smoking, lose weight, eat better, be more active, or get more sleep, these are all things that can help you create a healthier lifestyle.
Here are some ideas:
SET A GOAL
Be realistic and set achievable goals.
You didn’t gain the weight, or get out of shape overnight, so don’t expect to be back in shape or thin overnight either. It will happen, and every effort you make will get you closer to your goal
IF YOU RESOLVE TO BE MORE ACTIVE & GET IN SHAPE:
Remember to pace yourself and don’t over do it. You don’t want your muscles to be so sore that you have to take several days off to recover – that will throw off your momentum.
You don’t have to spend all day at the gym to make positive changes!
Anytime you’re moving will have a positive impact:
- Go for a walk
- Ride your bike around the neighborhood
- Take the stairs
- Rollerblade with the kids
TAKE IT ONE DAY or ONE WEEK AT A TIME
Don’t focus on getting through the next several months, otherwise it can seem overwhelming, Just focus on small pieces of time – like one day or one week at a time – and you’ll have more success.
Life is always going to happen – there will always be busy schedules, travel or parties that can throw you off from your new routine, but get back on track right away and don’t let these events affect your progress.
SHARE YOUR RESOLUTION
It’s been shown that if we share resolutions with friends or family, we’re more likely to keep them. Start telling people about your plan so you can have their support toward reaching your goal!
VISUALIZE THE END RESULT
Focus on why you made this resolution and think about the end goal and how it will make you feel when you complete it.
Focus on what you will get, NOT on what you are giving up. You get to:
- Be healthier!
- Eat MORE healthy foods!
- Be thinner!
- Have more energy!
- Wear your favorite clothes again!
- Fell more confident!
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Keep a journal or checklist so you can track your progress. You’ll be able to see how much you’ve accomplished, and it will help you to stay motivated.
You’ve earned it! So reward yourself for each step you make toward achieving your goal – with a new outfit, concert tickets or a night out.
If you quit smoking, use the money you used to spend on cigarettes to buy yourself something you really want!
HAPPY NEW ‘YOU’ 2018!
